Later Visits - 1999

Since I've received several inquiries about Haspin in email, on a recent trip I took some photos to show people what to expect there. These still don't make a complete picture, but it's a start.

The main parking lot, just inside the gate after your pay your admission. To the right is the main campground and pond, to the left, the main road leading to the trails, and the drag strip.

Turning to the right we see the pond and part of the campground (including one of several shelters in the park).

Scattered through the park are many nice spots to park your trailer, camp, or stop for lunch.

The bulk of the riders at Haspin are on ATVs, with a few dirt bikes scattered in. You have to be careful on the main roads because of the traffic density.

Usually we don't see many buggies at Haspin - sometimes we're the only ones. This day, though, we stopped counting at two dozen! Here's two of them, out looking for trouble.

I mentioned the dust before, and you can see it in the pictures above. On the main roads, it's very bad when the weather's dry. Kevin does a few donuts to demonstrate.

But once you get into the woods, traffic disappears and the dust isn't too bad. There are plenty of mudholes when it's wet, and a few remain even on the dryest days.

Trail density is high, and it pays not to go blasting up a hill at top speed - there's often a major trail running down the spines.

Some of the hills are pretty steep, if short. Many are deeply rutted, sometimes adding a challenging twist.
